Weapons in Fencing

Three types of weapons are used in modern sports fencing. In competitions they must be electric to know when the hit is made. A wire that transmits the impulse to the connector between the grip and the bowl. From this connector there is a cable that carries the impulse to the marker, either by direct devices or by wireless means.

FOIL

It is a light weapon. In competition the tests are judged by an electronic control device.

The foil is a pointed weapon. The blows or hits cannot be counted except when the florist touches his opponent with the point of his weapon on the valid surface that includes the torso and the back; head, arms, and legs don't count

SWORD

The sword is also a pointed weapon, but it is heavier than the foil. The touches are recorded by an electronic control device.

The whole body is valid in the sword, from head to toe.

  SABER

The saber is also a light weapon but, contrary to the foil and the sword, it is a point, edge and butt edge weapon at the same time.

In saber, the valid surface includes the entire part of the body located above an imaginary line, located just above the hips of the fencer. The arms and the head also constitute a valid surface.
